Our Research Program

ITM Academic Initiative

Abstract: “Research in industry is product driven whereas research in academia is idea driven. A product is typically based on a large number of ideas. Industry needs to combine results of many idea driven research efforts and faces the challenge of deployment much more significantly focus on an independent idea may be an unaffordable luxury. Research in academia typically not bound by a particular product and can afford to focus on ideas exclusively which can have longer development periods. So there is a gap between Industry and Academia. ITM has started an academic initiative through which we are trying to address this gap various ways i.e. through sabbatical and paper publications in IEEE sponsored peer reviewed journals for faculty members, collaboration towards AICTE research promotion scheme, Faculty Enablement Program, Industry ready student program etc”.

  • Introduction: Our objective in launching academic Initiative programme is to enhance the quality and quantity of the IT talent-pool; to sustain the growth of the IT industry itself. We intend to increase the employability of students. We want to have a consistent output, irrespective of all variables involved. As per predictions, by the year 2040, Asia, especially the Indian subcontinent will have the maximum number of working professionals in the world! Doesn´t this throw up huge possibilities your way? Clearly we have an excess of opportunities staring us in the face. The future looks bright and promising all we need to do is work towards it.
  • Open educational API development: We are working with some higher education institutions to define a standard API: the Open Educational API in compliance of IEEE’s LTSA specification. An API is a set of definitions which help software programs communicate with each other. It can be used as an interface between different software applications. Using this API, educational institutions can be transformed from traditional education system to cognitive based open collaborative learning platform can make useful information available across the globe.
  • Working together forcommon education API specifications::Due to heterogeneity in education delivery system, eventually it becomes very difficult to develop institute specific APIs, hence decided to work upon APIs based upon common specifications, so that these APIs can be available and configurable for institute specific purposes.
  • Benefits:
  • No major costs
  • Fast development
  • No need for a separate app for each institution
  • Easier for institutions to exchange data with each other
  • Third-party apps can be used for multiple institutions
  • Share information safely.
  • Easy compliance of governing agencies
  • Educational institutions can join us!: Infosphere would like to get in touch with higher education institutions who want to share educational data, and want to implement these API. While joining us you can get benefited by sharing your educational experience our research and development.
  • Application Server service research:An application server is a modern form of platform middleware. It is system software that resides between the operating system (OS) on one side, the external resources (such as a database management system, communications and Internet services) on another side and the users’ applications on the third side. The function of the application server is to act as host (or container) for the user’s business logic while facilitating access to and performance of the business application.
A high-end online-transaction-processing-style application server delivers business applications with guaranteed levels of performance, availability and integrity. An application server also supports multiple application design patterns, according to the nature of the business application and the practices in the particular industry for which the application has been designed. It typically supports multiple programming languages and deployment platforms, although most have a particular affinity to one or two of these. Some application servers that implement standard application interfaces and protocols, such as Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE), are entirely proprietary.
As the application server market matures, high performance becomes a stronger criterion, hence there huge potential for research to enhance functional requirements of applications and thus where vendors now incorporate extensions to application servers, such as extreme transaction processing and event-based processing capabilities.
  • Database software service research:Database software portfolio for transactional and analytical workloads that spans ground and cloud are the needs of today’s IT enabled business houses. It provides continuous availability of data, massive scalability, breakthrough in-memory performance and deployment flexibility empowering faster innovation and competitive advantage with next-generation applications.
Our dedicated researcher’s team work upon some the most critical research expectations from databases are: Actionable insights, Continuous availability, Massive scalability etc.
  • Faculty Sabbaticals and Research Publications: The purpose of faculty sabbaticals and research publication is to leverage the leading-edge technology knowledge of specialist faculty members to develop state-of-the-art IEEE recognized industry solutions. The expected outcome of the sabbatical and publication is an IT solution or approach that has a significant cost savings or performance improvement or significantly enhances solution attractiveness.
The sabbaticals/publications may be sponsored by ITM. Faculty members will work out at ITM for a term ranging from 2-3 months for sabbatical. Research publications can be continued from their institutes in close association with our research and product development team.
Sabbatical projects are an opportunity for the academic´ faculty members to work with ITM´s product unit and to get exposure of software development methodologies and practice at ITM. While research paper publication will be giving the innovative ideas to ITM for their product development division and of course endorsement and recognition from leading technical societies.
The sabbatical project is typically in the areas of product development, re-engineering,cost estimating, profiling and experiential aspects of software development and same areas can be asked to partnering college faculty to publish the papers. The outcome of a sabbatical may be a technical article, white-paper, proof of concept, prototype etc. The college faculty members will be able to carry this project experience back to the college and share with the students. Outcome of the research publication will be copyright transfer of IEEE accepted papers to ITM.
  • Sabbatical activity provides opportunity for partner faculty members to:
  • Understand the ITM´s best practices of software development life cycle with CMM guidelines.
  • Work closely with ITM´s development team and understand the industry best practices in software development in various verticals.
  • Develop insight into practical implications of choosing different software engineering methods.
  • Experience the real-life project environment and associated challenges.
  • Contribute to the project delivery work products.
  • Research Promotion Schemes: Infosphere provides financial assistance to promote research and development in technical institutions and to enhance industry Institute Interaction under various schemes like Industry Institute Partnership Programmed (IIP), Entrepreneurship And Management Development (EMD), National Facilities in Engineering and technology with Industrial Collaboration (NAFETIC) and Nationally Coordinated Projects (NCP) in the field of Engineering & Technology through the Bureau of Research & Institutional Development. In above schemes, for some of the scheme industry collaboration is required; ITM can help towards this collaboration to promote research schemes.
  • Faculty Development Program: Program provides the opportunities to the faculty members of the academics to learn the usual techniques for teaching and experiment with innovative learning techniques. Program includes “higher level of understanding of various new tools & technology, business domain, real practical situation and performance skill evaluation etc.”
  • Student Training Program: In the program ITM´S will work with the student closely to identified colleges. Here student can take the advantage of live product development with the knowledge of best practices, new technology and business process followed in the organization.
  • Online Contest & Certifications: To enhance the technical skills national level contest will be held for faculty members and students and ITM´s learning certificate and some prizes will be given to successful faculty members and the students.
  • Program Team: The Program team consist the highly experienced professionals from various fields. Team includes the technical resource, quality resource, project manager, program managers and professors/Asst. professors from education sector. This strong team is completely working for social and economical growth towards Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR).
  • Rationale for the program:
  • Sabbaticals will enable faculty members to effectively deliver IT subject lectures with real-life examples
  • Research publication in IEEE journals will give us an opportunity to get appraised at college level
  • Faculties would be eligible to get grant from grant donor i.e. AICTE, UGC and DST etc, where paper publication is mandatory to get grants from these institutes.
  • There is a need to provide live project experience to college faculties so that they appreciate application of technologies.
  • There is a need for the college faculties to experience real-life IT challenges during software services delivery.
  • Faculty members need to be part of a product team to understand the importance of commonly less focused issues like team communication, documentation and progress tracking during software development.
  • ITM´S Product teams will benefit from the research methods and sound knowledge foundations practiced in academia.
